MailChimp Newsletters: The Bells and Whistles

A tale by

Setting up MailChimp newsletters is as easy as 1,2,3 right? Right! But did you know there’s a whole lot more you can do with MailChimp than just selecting a template, inserting your content and images, and pressing send?

MailChimp offers so many added – and a few paid – features that can help you customise your account just the way you (and your customers) like. Here’s a few:

Scheduling your MailChimp Newsletters

Did you know MailChimp gives you the opportunity to schedule your MailChimp newsletters in batches? Let’s say you have a hard earned list of 20 000 subscribers. Instead of chaotically sending them all to your website, why not send your newsletter out in four batches, 20 minutes apart? This gives the peeps on the other side a chance to manage the process, preventing potential mishaps.

Other features include personalising the “to” field or perhaps even activating replies. Feedback is never a bad thing. This is especially true when there’s an angry someone on the other side whose delivery was scheduled for 08.00 and it’s 08.02 …

E-commerce tracking

So you’ve spent all this time writing content, finding the perfect images and building your subscriber list. Don’t you think you deserve to know whether it’s paying off? We think yes. Connect your online store to MailChimp with the click of a button and track your customers’ orders, average spend and total revenue per campaign.

List Segmentation of MailChimp Newsletters

Segmenting your lists gives you the opportunity to focus on specific people. A great way to do this is through a person’s purchase activity (remember you’ll need to have connected your store to MailChimp). Whether they’re first-timers and need a little encouragement or they’re just plain obsessed with your brand, why not pay them special attention, or even reward them?

A/B testing

You’ve put this beautiful campaign together and now you need to schedule it – but then you think, well what’s the best day or time, what subject line do I use or shucks, maybe I should have included the price? The only way you’re ever going to find out what works best is to test it. MailChimp gives you the opportunity to split your campaign and send different variants of the same email so you can find out what works best for you and your customers. Do some research on how to write effective subject lines to really get your readers excited about your emails.

With so many wonderful features, we could go on and on but that’s enough monkey business for one day.  If we’ve sparked an interest and you want to find out a little more about how Brand Candy and MailChimp newsletters can help your business – get in touch!
